Failed payments can occur for a variety of reasons. For example, the customer's bank card may be declined because there are insufficient funds available or one of the card's daily limits has been reached. As long as your shop's technical integration is working correctly, you can view the status of each payment, so there is no need to be concerned if you see a failed payment.
You can find more detailed information about your payments on the Shops > Payment monitor page. Successful payments are marked in green, while failed payments are marked in red. The “Status” column on the right shows the current status of each payment.
The descriptions of the statuses are the following:
- Authorized (Not charged yet): The payer has completed the payment, but the amount has not yet been charged to the bank card. The payment must be finalized before the authorization period expires. (Status for only Reservation and Delayed Capture payments).
- Canceled by user: The payment has been explicitly cancelled (rejected) by the payer. This is a final status, the payment can no longer be completed.
- Expired: The payment was expired. This is a final status, the payment can no longer be completed. This can occur due to numerous reasons:
- The payment time window has passed and the payer did not complete the payment.
- A reserved payment was not finished during the reservation period. In this case, the money is refunded to the payer.
- Failed: The payment has failed because of unknown reasons. Used in payment scenarios that were paid with bank transfer. This feature is currently not available.
- In progress: The payment process is currently in progress. This means that the communication between Barion and the bank card processing system is currently taking place. No alterations can be made to the payment in this status.
- Partially succeeded: This can occur if a complex reservation payment contains multiple transactions, and only some of them are finished. If all transactions are finished, the payment status will change to Succeeded.
- Prepared: The payment is prepared. This means it can be completed unless the payment time window expires.
- Reserved: The payment was completed by the payer, but the amount is still reserved. This means that the payment should be finished (finalized) unless the reservation period expires. (Status for only Reservation and Delayed Capture payments).
- Started: The payment process has been started. This means the payer started the execution of the payment with a funding source.
- Succeeded: The payment is fully completed.
- Waiting for external service: The payment was paid with bank transfer and the result of the bank transfer is not known yet. This feature is currently not available.
If you click on a payment ID marked in red, you can view the reason for the failed payment under the “Payment Attempts” section. If the payment failed even though the authentication was successful, we recommend that the customer contact their card issuer for further assistance.
